Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Western Hemisphere Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the Congressional Albanian Issues Caucus, released the following statement:

“Today, Honduras recognized the independent republic of Kosovo. I congratulate and thank my good friend, President Lobo, for taking this important step. I hope that other countries in the Americas will similarly recognize this new democracy.”

On July 22^nd, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague ruled that Kosovo’s independence declaration did not violate international law. Honduras is the first country to recognize Kosovo since that decision.
