ENGEL ANNOUNCED REPAIRS TO WEST 238TH STREET BRIDGE, DEEGAN EXPRESSWAY

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced that the West 238th Street Bridge, over the Major Deegan Expressway will be repaired using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Rep. Engel said, “The bridge is one of 31 to be repaired throughout New York City using ARRA funding authorized by Congress. It was awarded a yellow flag after the latest inspection by the state, indicating the bridge, while safe, needs repairs.”

The contract will be let in late July, awarded in September with work scheduled to begin in October.

Concurrent with the bridge repairs, work will also be started on the Major Deegan Expressway southbound from the Mosholu Parkway to Fordham Road. This is also being done with money allocated by ARRA. The contract also will be let in late July, awarded in September with work to be started in late October.

These projects, with money for them authorized by Congress, were selected by Governor Paterson as part of a program of making infrastructure repairs throughout the state.
