- As we pause today to remember the events of December 7, 1941, let’s reflect not just on what happened that day, but also what we have learned about ourselves in the years since. That ‘day that will live in infamy’ now also symbolizes our ability to forgive. The actions of a small group who sought war have been outpaced and overshadowed by the acts of the many who stood ready to give their full measure to preserve those things that our nation holds dear. And today we can put the conflict behind us, while continuing to celebrate and cherish the sacrifice of those who refused to surrender in the face of daunting odds and unimaginable danger.
