Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) congratulated New York Archbishop Timothy Michael Dolan upon his elevation to Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI.  Cardinal is the second-highest rank in the Roman Catholic Church.

“This is a great day for Cardinal Dolan, and for New York, as he follows in the long line of New York archbishops to become Cardinals.  He has been a faithful leader to all Catholics in our region, and has enriched our state with his leadership and service to the community.  I am certain he will continue serving the Church, its followers, and the community, only now from the higher position in the College of Cardinals.  He deserves all of the accolades he is receiving.”
