REP. ENGEL – CANCER CLAIMS APPLE FOUNDER STEVE JOBS

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) issued the following statement on the passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Steve Jobs was a true American visionary and an innovator in the same vein as Thomas Edison.  His work will be with us for generations.  He was a perfect example of the American dream – starting Apple with his partner with a $1,300 investment, and turning it into the highly-successful company it is today.  He said it himself, ‘Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma -- which is living with the results of other people's thinking.’  These are words to live by.

“Perhaps the loss of Steve Jobs at the too-young age of 56 will trigger an effort to vanquish this disease once and for all.  Too many families have lost loved ones to cancer, and now America has lost one of its best and brightest.  I wish there would be no more added to the dreaded casualty list.”

Rep. Engel is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health.
