Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday to condemn the threat by Stella D’oro management to close their plant in the Bronx.

Rep. Engel called the threat to close the plant a prime example of corporate greed, saying it has become clear the owners bought the company with the intention of paying for it by slashing salaries and breaking the union. He said shutting the plant as a reaction to the National Labor Relations Board ruling that it must take back their striking workers with back pay, is a disgraceful power play and urged the company to “stop the madness.”
