REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANTS FOR THE COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT

Washington, DC--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the awarding of two grants for the College of Mount Saint Vincent totaling $128,709 for scholarships for disadvantaged students. The grants were awarded by the Federal Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).

Rep. Engel said, “The College of Mount St. Vincent has been a leader in the community and has been outstanding in providing opportunities for students who need help earning an education.  I am very pleased to be able to help them obtain more funding to help them and to provide more college degrees to young Americans who would not have managed to pursue college without Mount St. Vincent.”

In response to the news of the grants, the College's President Charles L. Flynn Jr. was enthusiastic and appreciative.  "These grant funds will be used to attract and support highly-talented students from underrepresented backgrounds to nursing and will help us ensure their success.   The grant is especially helpful since affordability is one key to educational opportunity.  The College is grateful to Congressman Engel for his continued support and commitment."

Last year, Mount St. Vincent was awarded over $100,000 in federal funding for scholarships for its disadvantaged students program, through both the Recovery Act and HRSA.
