REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR MOUNT ST. VINCENT

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced that the College of Mount St. Vincent was awarded a $33,802 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services as part of the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program.

Rep. Engel said, “This program funds health professions schools and training programs which, in turn, provide scholarships to full-time health professions students, with priority given to those with financial need. Mount Saint Vincent has an excellent reputation for the training it gives students, and this money will help with that effort. America is now facing a nursing shortage. This money will help to alleviate that shortage.

“The money is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which allocated $19.3 million nationwide for aid to disadvantaged students who are training to be health professionals.”

Those funds, he said, are part of a larger amount, $500 million, allotted to HHS to address workforce shortages under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Last July Rep. Engel announced the awarding of a $77,087 U.S. Department of Education grant to Mount St. Vincent for its scholarships for disadvantaged students program.
