REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR MERCY COLLEGE

Dobbs Ferry School Gets $24,144 to Train Health Professionals

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the awarding of a $24,144 grant to Mercy College from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), as part of the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program.

Rep. Engel said, “The money was allocated under the Americans Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as part of the $19.3 million nationwide program awarding grants to schools training health professionals. That money is part of a larger amount, $500 million, allocated to HHS to address workforce shortages under ARRA.

“This grant money will help to alleviate the critical nursing shortage America is now facing.”

The Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program funds health professions schools and training programs which, in turn, provide scholarships to full-time health professions students, with priority given to those with financial need.
