REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTER

Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center was awarded a $58,841 Head Start grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The grant will be used for cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) and quality improvements.

Rep. Engel said, “I am pleased to be able to support funding to help families be better able to provide for their children. The Head Start program has been very successful in aiding low-income children to be better prepared to obtain a quality education, improved health and nutrition. Created in 1965, Head Start has benefitted nearly 25 million preschool aged children over multiple generations. The Kingsbridge Heights Community Center is doing outstanding work in this manner and I am glad to be able to do my part in helping them.”

The 11-term Congressman added, “I am glad to have supported and voted for ARRA and it is encouraging to see the results become tangible in such organizations as the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center. These funds will enable them to better attract and retain staff, and as a result, better serve and educate our children.”
