REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES $1.7 MILLION IN HUD GRANTS FOR MOUNT VERNON

Washington, DC--Congressman Eliot Engel announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is awarding $1,710,377 in grant money to Mount Vernon.

The amounts broken down by program are:

  • Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) - $1,340,911;
  • The HOME program for affordable housing - $369,466

Rep. Engel said, “These grants will help Mount Vernon to improve and expand housing for those who have the greatest need. The block grants provide for affordable housing, and expand economic opportunities, chiefly for low- and moderate-income families.

The HOME program expands the supply of good, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families.

Rep. Engel said, “This assistance is going to those most in need, and with the least resources. These kinds of grants go a long way towards helping those most in need.”
