Schrader to Hold Public Forum on Salmon Fishing in Newport

Washington D.C. – Congressman Kurt Schrader announced today that he plans to hold a town hall meeting in Newport to discuss 2009 Pacific Fishery Management Council recommendations and the next steps. The event will be held on Thursday April 9th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 pm at the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club.

“We will do what we can to protect the livelihood of our fishing men and women,” said Schrader. “However, we also need to keep an eye toward the longer-term goal of making fishing more sustainable.”

The forum will provide an opportunity for all members of the community to come and speak to the Congressman and other key stakeholders about how they have been affected by the past ocean salmon season closures, the economic impact of the 2009 decision and what Congressional action is needed to ensure the continued viability of Oregon’s fishing industry.
