Schrader Statement on H.R 3630, Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011

Congressman Kurt Schrader today issued the following statement following the vote in the House of Representatives on H.R. 3630, the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011:

"I support a two year extension of the SGR that brings us to 2014," Schrader said.  "Short term extensions only continue to promote uncertainty for our nation's doctors. I also support an unemployment insurance extension right now for folks that are still trying to find work after one of the worst recessions in our country's history. However, this legislation has the potential to reduce current unemployment benefits in Oregon by as much as one-third in the coming months, adds over $100 billion to this year's deficit and combines it with a payroll tax cut extension that borrows billions against a social security system that is already being depleted. For these reasons I voted against H.R. 3630 today."
