Schrader Returns More Than $1.44 Million Owed to Veterans, Seniors In Oregon's 5th Congressional District
07/27/10Congressman Kurt Schrader announced today that his congressional office has helped return more than $1.44 million owed to Oregon veterans, seniors, and constituents throughout the 5th Congressional District and has completed work on more than 806 individual cases. The total represents the amount of money or benefits owed to constituents that may have been stalled or withheld by the federal government.
“Constituent casework is one of my top priorities,” said Schrader. “Part of my job is to help Oregonian families cut through the red tape and to try to help them recover benefits that are owed to them. At a time when Oregonians need help the most, I want them to know that I am here for them.”
Money has been returned to constituents that have had issues with Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits, and a variety of other federal sources.
• $1,193,415 in Social Security benefits, Medicare / Medicaid benefits;
• $226,000 in Veterans benefits for our brave men and women in uniform;
• $30,000 from the Internal Revenue Service, financial institutions, and additional sources that was either incorrectly withheld or from waived penalties.
Since assuming office Schrader has worked tirelessly to secure real benefits for Oregonians throughout the state and 5th Congressional District. Over the past year and a half, Schrader has responded to more than 100,050 constituent letters in addition to casework. Responding to more than 37,000 constituent letters this year alone.
Congressman Schrader has district caseworkers in both his Salem and Oregon City offices that can be resources for constituents who have had trouble or need assistance with federal agencies.
