Schrader Pushes for Super Committee to "Go Big" In Bipartisan Special Order
10/26/11Congressman Kurt Schrader joined Congressman Reid Ribble (R-WI) during a bipartisan special order on the Floor of the House of Representatives Tuesday evening to urge the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction to "go big" and find an additional $3 trillion in deficit savings over the next 10 years, much more than the $1.2 to $1.5 trillion it has been tasked to save.
For months Schrader has unwaveringly requested for these savings to be balanced, drawing from equal discretionary spending cuts to defense and domestic spending, increased revenue from tax reforms, and decreased long term cost growths from reforms to entitlement programs. "Putting the United States back on a path of fiscal sustainability and creating jobs should be the first priorities of this nation to prove to the American people and the world that we are serious about paying off our debt and remaining globally competitive."
The Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction has until November 23 to release their proposal for cutting the deficit by $1.2 trillion or more.
Following is the special order in its entirety:
