Schrader Applauds Agreement to Avert Government Shutdown

Congressman Kurt Schrader released the following statement after both Houses of Congress and the President agreed to a short-term extension to keep the government operating:

"This is good news for seniors, our brave soldiers and their families, and all Americans," said Schrader. "But now thehard work must begin.  It's time to get past the polarizing rhetoric that has grinded Washington, D.C. to a halt. Short-term budgeting is no way to run a business and certainly no way to run our government. It's time for both parties to work together and craft a real long-term budget that protects our economy while demonstrating  to our nation, and the world, that America is serious about fiscal reform and investment. The choices won't be easy, but we owe it to our children and grandchildren to get it right."
