Schrader Announces that Dallas Emergency Medical Service will Receive $24,329 Grant

Congressman Kurt Schrader has announced that Dallas Emergency Medical Service (EMS) will receive a $24,329 grant through the Department of Homeland Security’s Operations and Safety Program.

“The grant will allow for the Dallas EMS to purchase essential equipment so that they can continue to effectively provide emergency medical treatment to residents in need,” said Schrader.

The funding will be used to purchase patient gurneys known as “power cots” that can be lowered and raised by a hydraulic battery powered system. The system is designed to reduce the risk of injury to paramedics and patients when being transported. Dallas EMS will also use the funding to purchase stair chairs that are used to safely transport patients down flights of stairs during times of emergency.

The Department of Homeland Security since January has awarded five grants to Fire and EMS departments in the 5th Congressional District. The awards have provided more than $674,372 in grant funding so that community Fire and EMS departments can purchase necessary equipment, receive essential training, and safety renovations.
