Schrader Announces $269,000 in Federal Funding on Its Way to Lincoln County
03/24/09Washington D.C. – Congressman Kurt Schrader (D-OR) today announced that $269,994.00 is headed to the Housing Authority of Lincoln County (HALC). The funding is another installment of assistance from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed by Congress in February.
“In this economy, one of the most important things we can do is put Oregonians back to work,” said Schrader. “This money will allow Lincoln County to make critical investments in public housing that not only create jobs but also reduce costs by increasing energy efficiency.”
Lincoln County Public Housing Authority will receive this money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Formula Capital Fund Grant. This funding will allow HALC to undertake several developments and address long-standing improvements to public housing units, create jobs, and increase energy efficiency.
Joanne Troy, HALC Executive Director, praised the federal funding as important to maintaining critical housing developments in Lincoln County. “This funding more than doubles our normal resources for deferred maintenance. It will allow HALC to make necessary repairs that have been delayed far too long and help provide affordable housing to many Lincoln County families who need it. We will not only create jobs, but have a better housing project at the same time. I want to thank Congressman Schrader and our federal representatives for securing this vital assistance.”
HUD’s Capital Fund Program provides annual funding to public housing authorities to develop, finance, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. This funding can also be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs; and for the replacement of plumbing and electrical systems to more energy efficient standards.
