Schrader Announces $1,138,000 Grant for High Speed Internet Expansion in Oregon

Congressman Kurt Schrader has announced that the State of Oregon will receive more than $1,138,000 over the next two years for high-speed internet expansion. The funding was made available through an American Reinvestment and Recovery Act program administered by the Department of Commerce.

“I am working hard to make sure that Oregon comes first,” said Schrader. “The project is estimated by One Economy Corporation to retain or create nearly 3,000 jobs and provide training to more than 230,000 Oregonians. The funding will also provide our rural communities with expanded access to high speed internet, providing Oregonians with greater educational and economic opportunities.”

The grant will provide greater access to high speed internet for residents, small businesses, libraries, and community colleges throughout Oregon and the 5th District. Oregon was one of thirty-two states selected to receive funding through one of nine programs administered through the Department of Commerce.

To date, Oregon has received more than $11 million in grant funding to expand access to high speed internet and improve broadband infrastructure. The funding has helped to link schools, medical facilities, small businesses and residents by improving access to information, creating jobs, and providing economic opportunity.
