Created by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi and chaired by Rep. Markey, the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming was tasked with finding solutions that address the energy, economic and national security challenges associated with our dependence on foreign oil and increasing carbon pollution. From March 2007 to December 2010, the Select Committee held 80 hearings and briefings exploring American energy resources, clean technologies, climate change and the risks associated with it.
