CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING U.S. SUPREME COURT DECISION TO PERMIT REINSTATEMENT OF EARLY VOTING FOR OHIOANS
October 16, 2012WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to deny Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted’s appeal to block in-person early voting during the last three days before the November 6th Election:
"Today was a victory for the citizens of Ohio and their fundamental right to vote. After continuous unwarranted attacks on the voting rights of our citizens, justice has been served.”
“Finally, targeted populations in Ohio will no longer be disproportionately impacted by the removal of critical early voting days leading up to the election. I am proud that the federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, have consistently reaffirmed the right of all Ohioans to equal access to the ballot box. Secretary Husted followed today’s ruling by issuing a directive reinstating early voting hours during the three days immediately before Election Day. We are now on our way to a fairer election process, ,” said Representative Fudge.
