Washington, DC – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) released the following statement after the House Republican Conference selected Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) to serve as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee:

“Congratulations to Congressman Buck McKeon of California on his election as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee.  Buck has been a valuable member of this committee since 1995, but he also happens to be one of the most decent people I know.

“With the full committee marking up the annual defense authorization bill today, Congressman McKeon becomes Ranking Member at a particularly demanding time, but I know he will meet the challenge.  I look forward to working with Ranking Member McKeon to continue our committee’s long-standing tradition of bipartisan cooperation to support U.S. service members and to protect America’s national security interests at home and abroad.”
