  5. Last year, Congress and the President reached a compromise to reduce the federal deficit by $2.4 trillion. While a portion of the spending cuts were spelled out in the law, the rest were to be decided by Congress, or else automatic cuts would take effect. If an agreement is not reached by January 1, 2013, Americans will face across-the-board spending cuts and a looming tax increase, as current ra...tes are set to expire. This will result in a cut of nearly $500 billion to our national defense, and a total tax increase of $494 billion, which will fall on the American taxpayer.

I want to know your thoughts on this issue.

  12. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families, and I wish you all a safe and memorable holiday.

Following a resolution of Congress, President George Washington proclaimed Thursday the 26th of November 1789 a day of “public thanksgiving and prayer” devoted to “the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.”

The below is... an excerpt from President Washington's original Thanksgiving Proclamation:

"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
