Energy and Water

America is facing an energy crisis. Our reliance on foreign energy is a threat to our national security and a barrier to our economic growth.

Our failed energy policies subject us to radical swings in energy costs and prices at the pump which hurt individuals and business owners, especially in Ohio’s energy intensive manufacturing industry. It does not need to be this way.

I strongly support an all of the above approach to energy that will open up America’s vast energy reserves for our own use while continuing to explore emerging forms of domestic energy production.

During the 112th Congress I have voted for multiple bills that would remove the barriers currently in place preventing us from drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and on the Outer Continental Shelf. The significant oil reserves in these areas would help greatly to increase our domestic energy production and reduce our reliance on foreign oil.

Exploration of our domestic energy resources will also directly benefit Ohio. Immense deposits of oil shale have recently been discovered in Ohio and surrounding States and could produce an economic boom for the region. Mining these deposits will create good jobs for Ohioans both directly and indirectly through manufacturing and services to support the growing industry.

I will continue to work with my colleagues in Washington to increase our domestic energy production, reduce our dangerous reliance on foreign oil, and create a more stable energy environment for America’s citizens and businesses.
