New Dems Welcome Reps. Bass, Hochul to Ranks

Washington, D.C - Today, members of the New Democrat Coalition welcomed two new members to the group, Reps. Karen Bass (CA-33) and Kathy Hochul (NY-26). Reps. Bass and Hochul will bring real-world experience and innovative ideas to the organization, as the New Dems work hard to strengthen our economy, ensure American businesses and workers can compete and win in the global marketplace, and help all American families prosper in the 21st century.

"I am so pleased to welcome Congresswomen Bass and Hochul to the New Democrat Coalition. Both Members brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization and we look forward to working with them on a number of critical issues facing our nation,” said Rep. Joseph Crowley (NY-7), Chair of the New Democrat Coalition. "We have significant work ahead of us in order to grow our economy and support American families, workers and businesses. The New Dems look forward to having Congresswomen Bass and Hochul as partners in these efforts.”

As the first African-American woman to serve as Speaker of the California State Assembly and now as a member of the powerful Steering and Policy Committee in the House, Rep. Bass brings significant leadership and insight to the Coalition. After helping to navigate California through a difficult economic crisis, her experience and understanding of what it takes to overcome challenges will prove valuable to the Coalition.

“It is truly an honor to join the New Democrat Coalition, a group filled with compelling leaders who are focused and committed to bringing real change to our nation,” said Rep. Bass. “While we have steep challenges ahead, I am dedicated to working to develop an intelligent and practical agenda that continues to advance our country forward.”

Throughout her career in New York and now in Congress, Rep. Hochul's focus on policies that support growth for American businesses, stability for the middle-class, and security for future generations aligns with the goals of the New Dems. Her experience and commitment to local economic development efforts will bring firsthand knowledge to the New Dems' work to create jobs and boost the economy.

“As someone who comes from a business family, my top priority in Congress is helping to create the right environment for businesses to grow. I look forward to working with the New Democrat Coalition as they work to get our economy back on track by encouraging innovation and economic investment in communities like Western New York,” said Rep. Hochul.
