Release: Information on the Dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial on Aug. 28, 2011

Update: Due to Hurricane Irene, the MLK Memorial Dedication this Sunday has been postponed.  We will inform residents when a new date is set.

Because a number of constituents have called Congressman Connolly’s office about the upcomingdedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, we are providing information on public access to the event onSunday, August 28, 2011. 

The Dedication ceremony at West Potomac Park, in Washington D.C. is free and open to the public.  A pre-dedication concert will begin at 10 a.m., with the dedication ceremony to begin at 11 a.m.  Following the dedication, a concert will beginat 2:00.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to be in our nation’s capital to honor the vision, service, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Reserved tickets will not be necessary for this event as there will be extensive public viewing areas.  In anticipation of large crowds, Congressman Connolly is encouragingconstituents to take Metro to the Dedication.  Parking will also be available at the RFK stadium parking lot, located at 2400 East Capitol Street, SE, Washington D.C.  Free shuttle service will begin at 7:00 am.
