VA Delegation Members Support McDonnell’s Disaster Aid Request

Senators & 7 Virginia Congressmen Sign Connolly Letter to President Obama Supporting Request for Disaster Designation for Fairfax & Prince William in Wake of Tropical Storm Lee

Virginia’s two U.S. senators and seven of its congressmen sent a letter to President Obama Tuesday supporting Governor Bob McDonnell’s request for a major disaster declaration for damage caused by Tropical Storm Lee in Fairfax and Prince William Counties.

The letter, initiated by Congressman Gerry Connolly, who represents much of Fairfax and Prince William, was signed by Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner and Congressman Connolly, Jim Moran, Frank Wolf, Rob Wittman, Bobby Scott, Bob Goodlatte, and Morgan Griffith.  Wolf also represents portions of both counties, while Moran represents part of Fairfax and Wittman represents a portion of Prince William.

The storm caused extensive damage in the two counties.  Hundreds of residents in Prince William and Fairfax were forced out of their flood-damaged homes, and a number of businesses were also impacted.

The letter asks the President to grant McDonnell’s request for individual assistance and services to residents of the two counties, as well as hazard mitigation for the entire Commonwealth.
