Release: Connolly's Telephone Town Meeting Draws 6,100 Participants

More than 6,100 residents of Northern Virginia's 11th Congressional District participated in Congressman Gerry Connolly's sixth Telephone Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

Connolly fielded questions from constituents for an hour on a wide-range of topics including the state of the economy, health care reform, Northern Virginia transportation issues, Medicare, and education.

Connolly’s previous town meetings have been popular with constituents, who note that they don’t have to drive to the event, they can participate from the comfort of their homes, and they can bow out quietly when they are ready to leave the discussion.

At the end of the hour-long meeting, more than 100 constituents who were unable to ask a question or chose not to ask one on the call were able to leave voice mail messages posing their questions to Connolly and Connolly will respond to every question.

Besides his telephone town meetings, Connolly has held many other meetings across the 11th Congressional District, including town meetings at public venues, at area businesses, and in communities. Connolly also has held informal Congress on Your Corner sessions where he meets one-on-one with residents at local libraries, grocery stores and other public locations. Connolly has also spent hundreds of hours visiting schools, civic associations, and other events and activities across Northern Virginia.

Tuesday evening’s telephone town hall meeting was open to residents of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District who live in Fairfax County, Prince William County, and the City of Fairfax.
