Release: Connolly to Hold 8th Telephone Town Hall

Congressman Gerry Connolly will hold his eighth Telephone Town Hall Meeting for constituents of the 11th Congressional District of Virginia on Thursday, July 22, 2010, beginning at 8 p.m.

Thousands of residents of Fairfax County, Prince William County and Fairfax City will receive calls in the minutes prior to the one-hour meeting asking them to stay on the line if they want to participate.  Those wanting to participate and guarantee that they are called may sign up on Connolly’s website at http://connolly.house.gov/teletownhall by 12:00 on Thursday, July 22.

Connolly’s previous town meetings have been popular with constituents, who note that they don’t have to drive to the event, they can participate from the comfort of their homes, and they can bow out quietly when they are ready to leave the discussion.

Many participants are able to ask questions directly to Congressman Connolly.  At the end of the hour-long meeting, those who were unable to ask a question and every other participant on the call are invited to leave a voice mail message with their question.  Connolly responds to every question.

Besides his telephone town meetings, Connolly has held many other meetings across the 11th Congressional District, including town meetings at public venues, at area businesses, and in communities. Connolly also has held informal Congress on Your Corner sessions where he meets one-on-one with residents at local libraries, grocery stores and other public locations. Connolly has also spent hundreds of hours speaking to a wide-range of groups including homeowner and civic associations, chambers of commerce, Rotary Clubs, veterans organizations, retirees, business associations, and many other events and meetings across Northern Virginia.

Thursday evening’s telephone town hall meeting is open only to residents of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District who live in Fairfax County, Prince William County, and the City of Fairfax.
