Pelosi Statement on Disrupted Plot to Assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to U.S.

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after two men were charged in New York for their alleged participation in a plot directed by elements of the Iranian government to assassinate Ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir , the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States:

“I congratulate the Obama Administration, DOJ, FBI and all government personnel who worked in concert to successfully disrupt the Iranian plot to assassinate Ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir , the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States, on American soil.

“Last year, the Democratic Congress passed the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act to provide the President with more tools to address the looming threats from Iran.  This is the strongest Iran sanctions legislation ever passed by Congress, and is in response to the repeated demonstrations by the Iranian regime of their unwillingness to work in good faith.

“All Members of Congress salute today's swift action to prevent this terrorist plot on American soil.”
