Payroll Tax Cut in Your Community

February 17, 2012

Today I voted in support of an extension of the payroll tax cuts through the end of this year. While our economy is showing some signs of improvement, I believe we need to sustain that momentum by supporting working families.

But what does this mean for you? Well, for an average family in Dona Ana County, for example, it means nearly $600 throughout the rest of the year.

Find out how the extension of this tax cut helps your household on the interactive Google Map below.

For New Mexico families, this tax credit has been essential during the downturn, and extending it while the economy makes a comeback is the right thing to do.

This tax deal wasn't perfect and I believe we need to provide better unemployment assistance -- a vital lifeline for folks in New Mexico out of work due to no fault of their own.

So, as the economy comes around, I'm focused on making sure our small businesses have the support they need to succeed, and our workers have the skills and education to compete in the global economy.
