    I invite constituents of Texas’ 30th District ( Dallas and surrounding areas) to listen in and participate in my Telephone Townhall forum this evening. The call starts at 7:15pm central time. The purpose of the forum is to provide a dialogue with constituents on the “fiscal cliff” and how it will affect District 30 residents.     Today I spoke at the Ethnic Diversity Workshop in Materials Science, held by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. The workshop’s focus was to address the lack of diversity in post-secondary education and the Materials Science fields. In our effort to ensure taxes on the Middle Class do not go up on Jan. 1, 2013, Democrats in the House of Representatives just filed a “discharge petition.” A “Discharge Petition” is a means of bringing a bill out of committee and to the floor for consideration immediately. This is our attempt to bring to the floor of the House of Representatives the Senate-passed middle class tax cuts bill, which President Obama has said he will sign immediately.     **New Video from House of Representatives** I just gave a major speech in the House of Representatives outlining the reasons why America needs to continue to invest in S.T.E.M. & Research & Development. I have always been a staunch supporter of investing in STEM jobs and education, and this is an issue we desperately need to address. According to the Program for International Student Assessment, the U.S. currently ranks 17th in science and 25th in math out of 34 countries. These troublesome numbers highlight the necessity of continuing to invest in STEM education. http://youtu.be/V9XsFPLnzSM
