Congressional Town Hall Meeting for Young DREAMers

Oct 3, 2012

E-NEWSLETTER ~ October 03, 2012

Dear Neighbor—

This Sunday, October 7th I will be hosting a town hall meeting at LaGuardia Community College focusing on the Obama Administration’s recent Immigration Deferred Action Program, with Special Guest Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Illinois) who has been a passionate and outspoken proponent of immigration reform.

All Americans should celebrate the vibrant and enduring contributions to our civic and cultural life made by immigrants through public service, including serving with great pride and patriotism in our nation’s armed forces, building businesses, investing in our communities and expanding our artistic and culinary horizons.  Immigrants are an integral part of the fabric of life here in New York City. When Congress failed to act on the DREAM Act, President Obama demonstrated courageous and compassionate leadership by taking action on behalf of the DREAMers, young people who are American in every way, except on paper. This Sunday, we’ll be providing information that will help people decide whether this is a program that would help them or their friends and family members.

The event will take place at the Mainstage Theater at LaGuardia Community College, 31-10 Thomson Ave., Long Island City, Queens, on Sunday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. and will include representatives from the American Immigration Lawyers Association, CUNY Citizenship Now, New York Immigration Coalition, and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. I hope you will join us.

Sincerely,

CAROLYN B. MALONEY
Member of Congress
