Norm Receives USGS Coalition Award

At a Capitol Hill ceremony on Sept. 15th Rep. Dicks received the first USGS Leadership Award from the national coalition that supports the U.S. Geological Survey’s scientific research and information sharing work.   Coalition Co-Chair Dr. Craig Schiffries cited Rep. Dicks’ career-long advocacy of good science as the foundation for governmental decisions relating to land management and natural resource policy.

Also attending the event was the U.S. Geological Survey Mark Myers, who noted that good science has allowed the agency to promote better ecosystem management as well as protecting and preventing natural disasters.   In his remarks, Norm also commended the USGS for its assistance in solving problem of low oxygen levels in Hood Canal and for its role in helping the northwest states prepare for earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic activity along the Pacific Rim.
