COMMENT FROM REP. NORM DICKS FOLLOWING U.S. DISTRICT COURT RULING IN MICROSOFT CASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the ruling of the U.S. District Court in the case State of New York, et.al. v. Microsoft Corp. late Friday, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks issued the following statement:
"Throughout the past five years, I have expressed the hope that these complaints against Microsoft, largely instigated by its competitors in the industry, should not be allowed to impair Microsoft's ability to innovate and continually offer better software features to consumers. I believe the settlement reached last year was balanced, and that the company has taken many actions in the intervening period responding to the Justice Department's concerns, as outlined in that settlement. In this regard, I am very encouraged that the District Court ruling today affirmed this settlement by focusing on its benefits to consumers. In addition, the Court rejected the proposals from the non-settling states that could have impeded innovation at Microsoft and which would have benefitted only a certain number of competitors in the industry."
