Comment from Rep. Norm Dicks Following President’s State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Norm Dicks witnessed President George W. Bush’s first official State of the Union Address this evening in the House of Representatives. Following the speech, Rep. Dicks made the following brief comments:
“As a senior Member of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I strongly support the President’s call for additional resources to continue the war on terrorism, and I agree with his admonition that we should be prepared for difficult days ahead in this effort.
“I look forward to working with the President on the international challenges he outlined in his address, but I also agree with the President’s emphasis in the speech on the importance of securing our nation by strengthening our economy. I hope that this emphasis is reflected in the substance of the budget proposals he will send to Congress in another week, including an effective method of providing prescription drug coverage to seniors in our country. Having just completed a series of Town Hall Meetings across my congressional district this month, I would advise the President to understand that people in the Pacific Northwest –and certainly elsewhere in the nation -- are facing serious economic challenges here at home.”
