STATEMENT OF REP. DICKS REGARDING APPEALS COURT RULING ON MICROSOFT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – "The United States Court of Appeals decision today has challenged many key aspects of the district court ruling in the Microsoft case, but most importantly it set aside the lower court's remedy that would have required the breakup of one of our nation's most innovative corporations," said U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks [D-Wash.].
"I had been confident that the unwise and unnecessarily harsh demand to separate the company's applications and operating system businesses would not have survived appeal," the congressman said. "But I am further encouraged by this decision because it also reversed the district court's determination that Microsoft had illegally attempted to monopolize the internet browser market," he added.
"I believe this unanimous, strongly-worded appeals court ruling has restored fairness to the arguments of this case, and it has sent a positive message to Microsoft and other American companies that have been successful through innovation," Rep. Dicks said.
