Final Results of the May Constituent Survey

This survey was sent out by email to subscribers of Norm's Newsletter. More than 5,000 people responded between May 21st and June 4th, and due to the large number of replies and overall positive response, future surveys on additional issues are planned. If you would like to receive notice when they are available, and stay informed about other important issues, be sure to subscribe to Norm's Newsletter.

Please note that while this was not a scientific survey, it still provided an interesting snapshot of the views and opinions of residents in the Sixth District.

3. In late February, the Air Force decided to award a $35 billion contract for mid-air refueling aircraft to a team that included the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), even though our government has brought a lawsuit against EADS because it has used illegal subsidies to steal aerospace jobs from the U.S. The Boeing Company has challenged the award. What should be done:

Response

#

%

The Air Force made a prudent choice to buy the better aircraft; the contract should be allowed to proceed.

242

We should wait until the Government Accountability Office review of the contract award is completed, and then follow its recommendations.

5. What is your opinion on the current health of the Puget Sound, and what actions should be taken?

Response

#

%

I believe the Sound, as one of the largest estuaries in the nation, is generally free from the pollution challenges that threaten similar bodies of water around the nation.

742

27.6

The Sound is at risk, but I do not believe the pollution issues that it is facing will require the large-scale changes and costs that scientists have been proposing.

1075

40.1

I believe the threats are indeed serious and will likely require major and potentially costly actions by local, federal and state governments to protect and clean up Puget Sound.
