HOUSE, SENATE APPROVE FINAL VERSION OF MILITARY CONSTRUCTION FUNDING BILL
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Senate today passed a final version of the Military Construction Appropriations bill, approved yesterday by the House, which allocates $141.6 million for projects at Washington State defense bases, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Friday.
The congressional action will assure that the important carrier pier replacement at Bremerton’s Puget Sound Naval Shipyard will remain on schedule, said Rep. Dicks, who together with Washington Senator Patty Murray serves on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee. A total of $38 million is provided in the bill for the pier work at PSNS in the next fiscal year, Dicks said.
Also in the bill are funds for construction of facilities required to base the new C-17 cargo aircraft at McChord Air Force Base, in addition to $16.9 million for replacement of base housing at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
