ADMIRAL THEATER WILL RECEIVE $300,000 IN FEDERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks added a provision to the final version of the Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill this week that will provide a grant of $300,000 to the Admiral Theater in Bremerton.
The appropriation will pay for new alterations to the Theater, including rigging and set-changing mechanisms required to attract more complex performances and programs, Rep. Dicks said.
"The Admiral is rapidly becoming a centerpiece for music, theater and the arts in Kitsap County," the congressman said. "This grant will help expand its range of programming and increase the economic activity in the downtown Bremerton area," he said.
Since it opened in 1997, the 25,000-sq.ft. Admiral Theater has brought drama, concerts, symphonies and children’s programming to the city, and it has been used as a downtown venue by various community groups.
The VA-HUD and Independent Agencies appropriations bill was given final approval by the House of Representatives on Thursday and is expected to receive final passage by the Senate next week.
