Statement Regarding District Court Decision in Microsoft Case
WASHINGTON, D.C. – "It is disappointing, though not unexpected, to learn of the ruling from the District Court in the Microsoft case today. I have consistently believed that Microsoft has offered American computer users increasingly better software at lower prices, and that the company’s innovation should be applauded, rather than criticized. In a highly dynamic software marketplace, I simply do not believe that the United States government should be attempting to tell a software maker that it shouldn’t incorporate a feature such as a web browser – that the consumers want – into its operating system software. I regret the harshness of today’s decision, but I believe that Microsoft will now have another opportunity at the Appeals Court level to frame its arguments, and that the company will ultimately prevail in the courts."
