$310 MILLION FOR MILITARY CONSTRUCTION IN STATE
INCLUDED IN FY 2006 FEDERAL BUDGET REQUEST

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The proposed defense budget for the next fiscal year, released today by the Bush Administration, includes a total of $310 million for military construction projects in Washington State, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Monday.

            Major barracks replacement projects have been underway at Fort Lewis, and the Army will spend another $100 million in the next year on two additional barracks complexes.  In addition, another $53 million was included in the budget request for facilities for Special Operations forces that are based at Fort Lewis, Rep. Dicks said.

            At Submarine Base Bangor, which is home to the Trident subs, a total of $107 million will be spent in the next fiscal year on support and security facilities.

            The first phase of construction of a Bachelor Enlisted Quarters at Naval Station Everett will also be undertaken in the next fiscal year, with $49.95 million budgeted in Fiscal Year 2006.  The total project cost is estimated to be $70.95 million.

            The following Washington State projects were submitted to Congress today in the FY 2006 Military Construction budget request:

Special Ops Forces -- Expansion of compound $18.5 million

Enclosure of Motor Transfer Facility $2.86 million
Production & Staging complex $47.095 million
Mission Support Facility for SSBN/SSN $15.78 million
Waterfront Security Enclave $41.52 million
   
NAVY -- NAVAL STATION EVERETT  
Increment #1 Bachelor Enlisted Quarters $49.95 million
