Federal Grant Will Fund Mason Transit Center Development
The Federal Transit Administration has awarded $3.28 million toward Mason Transit’s Community Center and Regional Transportation Center, Rep. Norm Dicks learned today.
The agency has approved the funding as a grant to help complete the transformation of the old armory building in Shelton into a combined transit center and community center, Rep. Dicks said after he was notified of the grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Mason Transit purchased the building in 2006 and it will be renovated to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, and will feature a convenient connection to public transportation bus service, a public transportation waiting area, public restrooms, regional transportation information, and other transit and community services.
“Mason Transit has provided a national model for how to effectively deploy public transportation in rural areas and the renovation of this existing structure will serve as the centerpiece of this transportation network,” the congressman said. “In addition this unique project will help create near-term employment during the construction phase and it will leave the community with a valuable public facility,” he said.
