Bremerton Tunnel Opens
Norm was in Bremerton on July 6 for the opening of the new State Route 304 Tunnel, which will channel inbound ferry traffic beneath Pacific Avenue, helping to make Bremerton more “pedestrian friendly.”
The Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, attended the opening ceremony and joined Rep. Dicks, Gov. Christine Gregoire and other local and state officials on a walk through the tunnel before the first traffic entered later that day. Secretary LaHood, a former congressman from Illinois, and Rep. Dicks served together for many years on the House Appropriations Committee, which approved much of the funding for Bremerton’s newest transportation improvement.
“With today’s opening, pedestrians and cars can enjoy and navigate Bremerton’s downtown in a much better way by removing congestion and improving safety in the heart of our city,” Congressman Dicks noted during the opening ceremony.
