American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was an absolutely crucial piece of legislation that rescued our economy from complete collapse, generating up to 3.3 million jobs and laying the foundation for sustained prosperity. A map and other information on its local impact is included below.

During the Bush Administration, years of insatiable Wall Street greed and negligent regulation brought us to the edge of another Great Depression. Prior to the Recovery Act, America was hemorrhaging 16,500 jobs every day with seemingly no end in sight. A Democratic-led Congress and President Obama took bold action to steer our economy away from the storm. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) used smart investments and targeted tax cuts to stabilize and then revive our economy. Along the way, ARRA shored up distressed state governments and stimulated demand in the private sector. It also provides important funds to transition to a green energy economy, modernize our health records, improve our nation’s transportation infrastructure, and keep teachers in the classroom and police officers patrolling our streets.
