May 19, 2009 Issues: Energy

Washington D.C. - Today, the leadership of the New Democrat Coalition and the Coalition Energy Task-Force co-chairs released the following statement in response to the Administration's CAFE standards announcement:

"The New Democrats support this administration's efforts to bring business, government officials and environmental leaders to the table to reach an agreement on new CAFE standards for vehicles sold in the United States.

Providing market certainty to the auto industry, especially during these difficult times, will allow companies to better invest their resources and continue to compete on a global stage. We applaud the commitment of all parties to work together to find common sense solutions. This decision is good for our national security, good for our environment and good for our economy."

The New Democrat Coalition, always leaders on the economy and innovation, is committed to enacting policies that maintain U.S. competitiveness, meet the challenges posed by globalization in the 21st Century and strengthen our national security. The New Dem Coalition is dedicated to providing the leadership necessary to implement policies that will ensure that America maintains its prosperity and global leadership.

Statement supported by New Democrat Coalition Leadership Representatives Ellen Tauscher (CA-32), Joseph Crowley (NY-07), Ron Kind (WI-03), Melissa Bean (IL-08), and Allyson Schwartz (PA-13), along with New Dem Energy Task Force Co-Chairs Representatives Ron Klein (FL-22) and Debbie Halvorson (IL-11).
