Rokita: PLO’s Efforts at U.N. Complicate Peace Process with Israel
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita issued the following statement after the United Nations voted yesterday to grant “non-member state” status to the Palestinian Liberation Organization:
“The PLO’s decision to seek U.N. recognition was an act of bad faith that jeopardizes the established peace process, a process which requires that the PLO directly negotiate with Israel without preconditions. The United States must continue to stand by our steadfast ally Israel in pursuing peace, and it is unfortunate that the Palestinian leadership has made that process more difficult by its recent actions,” said Rokita.
Rokita earlier this month supported H. Res. 813, which passed the House by unanimous consent, to express Congress’ “vigorous support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state with secure borders, and recognizing and strongly supporting its right to act in self-defense to protect its citizens against acts of terrorism.”
