HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- A popular topic in the Hudson Valley is getting the attention of Congresswoman Nan Hayworth.
The Congresswoman calls the replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge a top concern and says she's doing all she can this election year at the federal level to see it happen and soon. Hayworth says because the bridge is an important interstate artery, the replacement should happen sooner than later.
Hayworth says she's happy to work with Governor Cuomo's team to see the project through.
Of the much discussed proposed toll hike, which some say could go as high as $14 per trip across, Hayworth says she has the issue on her radar.
Hayworth said, "As a federal representative, what I'm trying to do is mitigate the burdens on our local travelers and commuters as much as I can. So the better the federal help we can provide, I hope the lower the toll will have to be."
Hayworth says she's pushing a Commuters Savings Act, which would give tax credits to those who commute on mass transit. Come this fall, Hayworth will face off against Sean Patrick Maloney for the newly formed 18th district.
