  1. Seventy-one years ago today, Japanese forces struck Pearl Harbor in a surprise attack to decimate the U.S. Pacific Fleet. While they intended to neutralize, they soon heard the battle cry of millions in our fight for good. We must remember and honor those who perished and all service members – both past and present – who have defended the freedoms we enjoy.

As a voter from your district, I support the President's plan to extend tax cuts for 98 percent of American families -- $2,000 a year means a lot to me and to middle-class families here in Mississippi. I urge Representative Harper to sign the petition forcing the House to vote on the Senate-passed bill, and to vote "yes" if it reaches the floor

    • REFORM SOCIAL SECURITY Currently the FICA tax is slated to increase from 4.2% to 6.2% on income limited to just 114K in 2013. People and employers making/paying more than 114K are exempt from paying further FICA taxation. Medicare will increase from 1.45 to 2.35% on all income without limit in 2013. Medicare will be limited to 1.45% on income less than 200K. Employers also pay this tax and self-employed pay both the employee and employer portions, so these are huge tax increases for everyone! The current 4.2% FICA should be made permanent on employees and employers/self employed making/paying less than 200K by applying it (the 4.2%) to all salaried income without limit. Benefits should be limited to the 114K in 2013 and indexed to increase with inflation. This would be a net increase in the solvency of Social Security and Medicare. And, these revenues must be put n a “Locked Box” and NOT spent on other expenditures such as Medicaid – the pending $750 Billion transfer from Medicare to Medicaid must be stopped – it will Bankrupt all medical service providers, particularly those in rural areas such as in MS. Please feel free to circulate this among your colleagues

I want to congratulate you, Congressman, on your decision to co-sponsor a declaration that January 8 should be observed as Elvis Presley day, as put forward by a group of able and judicious Congressmen such as yourselves. The declaration has no financial implications and would honor the achievements, both personal and professional of the person who did the most to advance popular culture in the second half of the 20th Century, his influence in changing the course of events, not just in the arts, but in the tourism and other sectors as well, inconmensurable and not just in your state, but in Tennessee, Hawaii and Nevada, to name 4 states of the Union, but in reshaping the lives of what were then teenagers who later turned into political prime movers throughout the world, from the Far East to the Iron Curtain, and across continental Europe and practically anywhere else in the world where his music was heard. Best of luck in your endeavour.

    • Spending on foreign countries has to stop until America is in balance. There are so many unnecessary monies going to those that are quite able to work and young enough to do so. SS and Medicare are always used as a threat, why is this?? These are paid for in advance..... I myself don't understand how spending can carry on when we are so in the red ink. America does not need anymore taxes.......... Flax tax percentage on any and all who gets an income, regardless of amount. Or do away with income, then increase item taxes. If one uses it, tax it. No loop holes. I could go on and on, but I won't. Thank you

  4. First votes following the Thanksgiving break are this evening. We'll continue organizational meetings and fiscal cliff discussions throughout the week. What are your biggest concerns as the 112th Congress begins to wrap up?
  5. Special thanks to the members of our armed services and their families for the daily sacrifices they make to protect our freedoms.
