Small Business Saturday

New Mexico's small businesses are the backbone of our economy. According to the Small Business Administration, there are more than 150,000 small businesses in our state, accounting for more than 55 percent of our private sector jobs.

This holiday season, we have a real opportunity to support our local, independently owned businesses.

In Congress, I've cosponsored a resolution to designate the Saturday after Thanksgiving -- November 26, 2011 -- as "Small Business Saturday." If you're shopping the weekend after Thanksgiving, I encourage you to make a visit to a local small business.

This Saturday, I'm going to shop at a small business in New Mexico. Will you join me?

Let your voice be heard on Facebook and help me spread the word:

Facebook Question: Small Business Saturday

Billions of dollars will exchange hands across America this weekend. On "Small Business Saturday" we can show our support for our small businesses and help grow our local economy. That sounds like a win-win to me.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Remember to take a moment to think of the men and women in uniform who are spending the holidays away from home this season.
